What is a Blockchain domain? Who are Unstoppable Domains? Unstoppable Domains is a San-Francisco based company founded in 2018 by Matthew Gould, Braden Pezeshki, Bogdan Gusiev, and Bradley Kam. They are one of the earliest recipients of grants from the Ethereum Foundation and the Zilliqa Foundation. Rather than relying on centralized networks to purchase and sell domain names (e.g., Namecheap or GoDaddy), Unstoppable domains use the Zilliqa Blockchain as a distributed process. It gives immunity to censorship in registered domains as no state or individual can limit or remove access to that domain. Blockchain domains do many things that traditional domains canÔÇÖt do: Payments - Domains can be used as a payment gateway for cryptocurrency payments. These are cheap, almost instant, and can be done from anywhere in the world to anywhere in the world. Uncensorable Websites - Other companies and governments cannot control the content you show on your website. Alternate Root - Are not governed by and donÔÇÖt require approval from ICANN. No Custodian - Blockchain domains are stored by the owner. No 3rd party can move or seize them. No Renewals - Pay once and itÔÇÖs yours ... forever. Transfers - Blockchain domains do not require an escrow agent to securely exchange the domain or funds. This transfer can happen in less than 1 minute, from or to anywhere in the world. How much does a Blockchain Domain (.zil / .crypto) cost? Once you buy a Blockchain Domain you don't have to pay anymore. Domains have 4 different costs that change based on the number of characters and if they are .crypto or .zil. This means if you want to buy a domain .crypto with a max of 5 letters costs $800, with more than 5 letters it costs $40, instead, .zil with 5 letters max costs $250 and $25 with more than 5 letters.
